There is only one way to end a piece about turkey hunting, and that is with a Tom Kelly quote.

Some of the happiest moments of my life were the times it was just me and whatever stretch of outdoors shared the breaking of day. It could be in my truck, waiting for the rest of the crew to show up and I had the privilege of watching the night creatures seek shadows, and the day lovers emerge from hiding. Or the anticipation of dawn when the hunt or fishing could commence. It is time never wasted.

My first true turkey hunt this morning with friend. So exciting! We called one in and it was a close miss. I just ordered a turkey choke! (I was using a full choke). It hasn't leafed out here so I have a few more days where I have really great visibility.

Hi Alice-

Any tips for a crow and owl call device? I'm finding I need one for locating.

I use an owl call (like the Ninja Owl from Woodhaven), but it only works for me pre-season and about the first week. After that, I'm way more likely to get an answer from another owl than I am a turkey. LOL. Which is fun in a whole different way.

Thanks, I'll check that one out. Hens have messed things up for me past few outings. I'm starting to think turkey hunting is almost as fun as deer hunting!

See that's where you're wrong. It's way more fun than deer hunting. (At least, that's what I'll say until deer season)

Amen to this.

What a lovely sentiment, chasing joy. Good luck with the rest of your season — and hope it’s more than just joy you capture!
